Precisely thirteen months after Hurricane Irma made landfall in the state of Florida, another powerful hurricane struck the sunshine state destroying thousands of homes and leaving hundreds of communities without power.
On October 10th, Hurricane Michael barrelled into the Florida Panhandle as a category 4 storm, the most powerful hurricane on record ever to hit this region, and the most powerful hurricane to hit the continental United States in 50 years. In fact, with wind gusts surpassing 150 mph, the storm was just shy of a Category 5 cyclone.
As the storm moved inland, the heavy rain and torrential winds damaged homes, businesses, hospitals, and major roadways not only in Florida, but also in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia leaving a path of destruction that caused an estimated $8 billion in damages.
Tragically, the hurricane has also claimed dozens of lives. The storm has killed 29 people across the four southern states making it one of the deadliest hurricanes in recent times.
